Essential Functions:
Manages design and stress analyst staff.
Establishes staff work assignments.
Provides engineering direction, from conceptual design development through completion of project detailed design & analysis.
Reviews engineering designs including drawings & reports for accuracy & completeness; ensures that the associated design & analysis is in compliance with regulatory (FAA or other cognizant airworthiness authority) and/or commercial requirements.
Interfaces with Director of Certification to support Supplemental Type Certificate and/or other regulatory or commercial programs.
Coordinates and monitors consulting engineers and/or companies utilized to support engineering projects.
Coordinates engineering department resources in support of Company engineering requirements.
Serve as technical Point of Contact (POC) for engineering projects.
Aligns team strengths to deliver on the following (5) vital factors:
Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Schedule, Budget and Team Development Drives change through goal setting, rewards, and accountability Reports to the Vice President Engineering or other designated senior manager.
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
Master of Science preferred or equivalent experience.
Master of Business Administration a plus.
FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) delegation for structures or be capable of meeting the eligibility to be appointed as a Company DER.
Minimum of 15 years of aircraft structural substantiation experience including Finite Element Analysis (NASTRAN FEMAP), traditional hand calculations & report writing.
Familiarity with aircraft engineering resources such as MMPDS, Bruhn, Roark, etc.
Working knowledge of typical aircraft structure, including materials, processes, hardware & composites.
Thorough knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 & 25 design, construction & structures regulations.
Must have excellent communication skills, be fluent in English (spoken and written) and proficient in MS Word and Excel.
Must be able to lead the engineering staff and work well with upper and lower employees and management.
